Land Rover Engine Replacement

We specialize in re-building and replacing Land Rover Engines.  Land Rover Engines are often prone to significant oil leaks and over-heating.  Once the engine has over-heated or run low on oil, significant damage occurs.  There are various courses of action when a major problem occurs, however, one of the most long term cost effective is an engine rebuild.
 

Rebuild or Replace?

The choice to rebuild or replace is influenced by a number of factors that are personal in nature e.g. finance.  The mechanical factors layout around the cause and effect of the problems that resulted in the damage.  In many cases, much of the original engine can be re-used with replacement of the damaged areas taking priority. 
 

The Slipped Sleeve

The Land Rover engine block is a sleeved design.  Sometimes the sleeve itself inside the block can become worn and begins to slip when the engine warms.  This produces a loud ticking noise and if left alone, can result in a major engine assembly failure.  Generally, the block cannot be re-sleeved and the best value for money solution is a short block replacement and rebuild.
 

Over-heating the Engine

When an engine is over-heated significant damage can occur.  If the over-heating was a result of coolant loss, then it is possible to isolate the damage to specific areas and address those during a rebuild.  In some cases, this is as simple as a head gasket problem.  However, if the over-heat also involved oil loss, then it is possible that more significant damage to major components will have resulted.  Some of this damage may be hidden and not evident until disassembly - in many cases a judgment call to decide if disassembly is appropriate is needed.
 

What's Involved?

First, the engine is removed from the vehicle. Once the assembly is out, we disassemble, clean and examine all of the surfaces and components - checking the specs and clearance as we go.  As a general rule, we recommend the heads to to our partner company (Werner Machine).  There, the heads will be thoroughly examined, cleaned and recommendations made for work to be completed for the rebuild.  Werner Machine uses the latest technology and exceptional skills to redevelop the cylinder head ready for the re-build.  The block and heads are rejoined, the engine re-assembled and placed back in the truck.  We complete the break-in mileage for you.  In some cases, the engine re-build will come with an extended 7 year or 100K mile warranty.
