This Porsche engine has a very nasty noise!
Further inspection reveals some bad scoring on the passenger side cylinders. This is a classic candidate for a Nickies replacement from our friends at LN Engineering. Over the next few weeks we will increase the capacity to 3.8L and rebuild the engine once the sleeves have been repaired.
This is a relatively common problem on the older M96 Porsche Engine used in the 911, Boxster, and Cayman. Many people ask us why or when this happens.
The simple answer is no-one is absolutely sure, although there are suggestions of lack of maintenance, oil starvation etc. Many of the questions are related to mileage – we have customers with healthy engines and 100K miles. This engine has completed 50K miles, so mileage does not seem to be an absolute indicator.
